Redwood Gospel Assembly is now Fremont Assembly

Brothers and Sister,

In 1981-1982 Brother Lewis Elmer Frayer dissolved Redwood Gospel Assembly and turned it into 3 churches in the Bay Area. One in Tracy, California, on Grant Line Road in a converted Supermarket, this church is Pastored by Brother Bill Wheelock. We decided to rent a portion of the unused building from Milpitas High School in Milpitas, California, this church is Pastored by David J. Campeau. Then we did the same with the third church and rented a portion of the unused building at Oscar Robertson High School, this church is Pastored by Michael Lee Palmer.

Then by 1985 the Lord started to bless our spanish work and we started a Bilingual assembly under Brother Davila in the Milpitas Building, eventually the assembly grew and we had to have a seperate church for the work. We moved the Bilingual Church to the school that is now the Santa Clara Teen Center on Cabrillo Avenue in Santa Clara. The Lord allowed us to extend our work to Mexico under the Pastorship of Brother Isaac Avalos and his assistant Brother Manuel Solis. The work even reached the country of El Salvador where we met a Pastor named Brother Torres.

By 1986 our beloved Sister Frayer had passed on. Shortly after her death Brother Lewis Frayer moved in with Jim and Zina Camp, who took care of him until his death.

Because of having to provide financially for the expanding churches in Mexico, because of our financial problems we had to go into hiding in various schools throughout the Bay Area. The Tracy Church was moved to a small building in Lathrop and another assembly was formed under Brother Jim Adkins. It was just off of Lathrop Road in a house that was converted into a church. Brother Wheelock and Brother Adkins had different church nights and different Sunday Service times, while their assemblies met together on Sunday Nights.

When the Church in Milpitas was moved to the Campbell High School facility and the Fremont Church, under Brother Palmer was moved to the James Madison Elementary School in San Leandro, California. By the early 1990’s we were under tremendous financial straits and had to condense our church in San Leandro into the Santa Clara Assembly and then after that, these 2 churches had to move to Campbell where we had 3 churches in the same building meeting at different times.

By 1994 we moved into a business district in Fremont at 47734 Westinghouse Drive, just behind Cabinetry by Design. We decided that we should call our church Fremont Assembly due to our ongoing problems, so we left the name Redwood Gospel Assembly as the designated residence of assistant Pastor Brother Jon A. Wright for donation purposes. By 1994 we had 3 assemblies that met in this building, Pastored by Brother Michael Palmer, Brother David Campeau and Brother Davila. All of which were at different times.

The Lord blessed our work and we ended up opening a Bilingual Church in Santa Cruz at a school just off of Main Street with Brother Jesus Mercardo as the Pastor and another Bilingual Church in Manteca with Brother Peter Solovsky as the Pastor.

By 1996 Brother Frayer moved Brother Bill Wheelock and Brother Jim Adkins assembly to a brand new building at 215 Elm Street in Manteca, California. The Church is called Manteca Gospel Assembly. The Santa Cruz work was stopped, because of the tremendous commuting problem going to Santa Cruz 3 times a week.

In 1997 Brother Lewis Elmer Frayer had passed away and Brother Jon A. Wright and his wife Sylvia who was already the Pastor of Redwood Gospel Assembly since the 1980’s, was now in the role as the Apostle over all of Brother Lewis Frayer’s work in the United States and Mexico.

Are assembly has decided that we would begin doing house church meetings in homes of the Ministers, Elders and Saints. We started out by making 10-15 different groups of 10-15 saints in each group and began having house meeting once a month per group, now we have as much as 4 house meetings a month per group. Every Minister, Elder and Saint know to meet in their specific team leaders house a day after anything happens automatically.

Today there are 22 assemblies run by Redwood Gospel Assembly in Mexico under Brother Isaac Avalos and his assistant Brother Manuel Solis Sr, while El Salvador under Brother Torres has really flurished and we are able to send donations to them on a weekly basis.
